I did get sleep paralysis for the first time last summer. I opened my eyes and there was a demon hovering above me, a chaotic jumble of shapes and light, like a Klimt painting gone to hell and in 3D. It was partially embedded in my chest and like… sucking out my life force a la JoJo vampires. I tried to call for help, but I couldn’t move, and all that came out was a weak rasp. I thought if someone would just touch my hand, I’d be free and able to fight back. I flexed my finger until the paralysis broke, the demon disappeared, and I went back to sleep.
I’m really glad I didn’t wake any campers up. They were all 12 or 13 and having your counselor screaming in the night to help them fight off a demon might not be the best summer camp memory.
