Random thoughts on the FMA live-action movie
Things I liked:
- Ed showing off by transmuting a ridiculous giant statue-face-thing while Al facepalms in the background
- The character designs were pretty darn good, especially the Homunculi, Hughes, and Winry
- Tsubasa Honda did a fan-freaking-tastic job as Winry
- Ed using his detached arm as a bludgeon was the most Ed-like thing ever
- Lots of really gorgeous shots and scenery
- “Am I taller than you?” ICONIC
- Made me want to watch FMAB again
- HUGHES
- The way the mannequin soldiers dropped from the ceiling and picked themselves up was so unsettling I got legit chills
- Envy the loser just NOPE-ing out when he knows he’s screwed
- Good CGI, especially the more material alchemy
- The Truth scenes were great
- I really liked the supporting cast
- So many iconic lines from the manga/animes
- Liore/Riole/Reole: nobody can figure out how places are supposed to be spelled, haha
- Nina is the most adorable child and Alexander is a FLUFFY GOOD BOY
Things I didn’t like:
- Nina is the most adorable child and Alexander is a FLUFFY GOOD BOY
- Seriously, it’s like they took all the upsetting parts of the story and put them in line with nothing to soften the blows
- LAB 5 AND NO BARRY THE CHOPPER WHAT IS THIS
- Netflix subtitles didn’t translate “Nii-san” as “Brother” :(
- Hughes never gets to even meet his daughter in this timeline
- A disturbing lack of Greed
- Hawkeye didn’t get to really do anything
- Al didn’t really get to do anything
- Tucker got too much screentime, it was hard not to punch the TV
- How did he even overpower Al, that makes no sense
- Why is Winry even there half the time, she literally has a job and no reason to be in all this danger
- I miss spazzy, energetic Ed
- Ed and Al had so little onscreen time together, barely any relationship building
- Messy plot
- The fight scenes felt really fake, they should have at least given the punches decent sound effects
- Anime and live action just. don’t. mix. well.
