underappreciated moment:

This is a huge moment for Dewey.

One of his main character flaws is self-centeredness. That can be said for all three of the boys, but Dewey’s shows itself in a way that makes us notice. Which does make sense, seeing as they’re ten, he’s the attention seeking middle child.

This moment is a moment where he acknowledges another person’s grief for someone that he himself lost. The entire season, he’s been mainly focused on what he lost.

We even see this with how he kept the search for answers secret. He wanted to protect them, yes, but he was also motivated by his own sense of loss rather than what the family as a whole lost. He doesn’t even really realize what he did was wrong until he sees how much he hurt them by doing so.

In Secrets of McDuck Manor, Dewey had to realize that his brothers are just as affected by the loss of their mother as he is. In The Shadow War, he had to realize and acknowledge that Scrooge loved her and misses her and mourns her.

He’s matured. He’s acknowledging that other people were affected by the loss that’s been his drive this entire season.

MY BABY’S GROWING UP.

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!😭

I am actually in tears and shaking because of this.

Dewey’s entire story/character arc was leading to this exact moment. And boy did it do well. Many do complain about Dewey and his middle child syndrome. And I can understand why we use the terms ‘self-absorbed’ and ‘self-centered’ because Dewey has those moments. But so do Huey and Louie (well not so much Huey but you get what I mean). But there are people who use the ‘attention whore’ to describe Dewey and I won’t even begin on how wrong that is. But I’ll summarize it with this: HE IS A 10 YEAR OLD KID.

He’s a child. He doesn’t know any better. As a fan of this show, and especially as a fan of Dewey, it hurts to see people use that strong of a term to describe him. Because he’s never exaggerated his middle-child syndrome. Most of the time he just jumps into the adventures very loudly or makes impulsive decisions.

So with this moment. We can see how much Dewey has truly grown. Even with the hug he had with Donald and his brothers shows that he was beginning to understand how everyone was feeling the same way he does. This is what character development is.

I’m so proud of Dewey and how he has matured.
