Can I say this because it’s bugging me now?
I noticed that Stan Dipper and Mabel actually DO NOT sing in a 3 part harmony during Scaryoke. They’re singing in unison.
Although at different octaves given their vocal ranges, they do sing the same notes. If it were to be a true 3 part harmony, Mabel would have sang Soprano, Dipper Tenor and Stan either as Baritone or Bass. They would have completely different vocal tones and notes like how an actual barbershop quartet does. Which is what Ford happened to be playing when he discovered how to kill zombies according to the Journal, so it isn’t as if to say that Ford was being vague. He meant SPECIFICALLY 3 part harmony as it is supposed to be sung. So as much as I love the song “Taking Over Midnight” and as much as I love seeing the Pines family sing it, it shouldn’t have worked.
But also imagine how much BETTER this already amazing song would have been if they stuck to an actual 3 part harmony! It would have been awesome! It’d give the song a little more body and variety! I still love the canon song but damn did they miss out on an opportunity!
Dipper does sing a harmony! but for some reason the sound mixing makes his harmony parts barely audible, which is a freaking shame because it sounds amazing?

YES! I will agree that they start singing a 3 part harmony when singing the line “We’re taking over the dance floor” right before the chorus. Which sounded amazing! But as soon as they get to that chorus, they sing in unison. And the reason you don’t hear much of Dipper’s actual voice is because he and Stan are singing the exact same notes. So he’s more or less getting drowned out by gruff old man voice. But all in all that STILL unison. They even do the key change in unison when repeating the chorus.
