27 - “Can we go someplace high so I can jump off it?” From this prompt list
“Magnus, for the last time, I don’t think parachute pants will actually turn into a parachute.”
“Not with that attitude, Creesh,” Magnus argued with a jovial smile, playfully tugging on the baggy pants he had just bought. He turned to Lup. “Can we go someplace high so I can jump off it?”
“Oh, hell yes,” Lup said, jumping up from the couch. “There’s a waterfall nearby we can use. I’ll race ya!”
Lucretia frowned as the other two put on their shoes. “Wait, I really don’t think that’s-”
“Cycle’s over soon anyway, babe!” Lup called out over her shoulder as she sped towards the door.
Magnus and Lup raced towards the waterfall, speeding past a confused-looking Barry on his way back from a trip to the nearby town. It was neck-and-neck, but eventually Lup won the race, slapping her hand against the slick surface of the rocky cliff that housed the waterfall. She doubled over, panting, while Magnus stayed standing straight, folding his hands behind his head as he caught his breath.
“It’s these damn pants,” Magnus protested. “They’re not aerodynamic.”
Lup snorted. “I’d hope the fuck not, considering you wanna use them to fly.”
“Not to fly, asshole,” He said. “Just to float down like a gentle petal in the breeze.”
She rolled her eyes and laughed. “Alright, sure.”
Magnus examined the rocky outcropping for a moment, then turned to Lup with a well-known expression on his face. “Race you to the top.”
Lup grinned. “Hell yes.”
“And no magic.”
She sighed dramatically. “Fine.”
The two quickly started up the wall, which was a difficult climb due to how slick the water had made it. Neither of them fell or slipped too badly, though, and for the first half of the climb they were neck-and-neck once more. Lup started fading in the second half, though. She was as energetic as Magnus and had nearly as much stamina, but she didn’t have his upper body strength.
Magnus hauled himself over the edge a good minute before Lup did. When she caught up, he grabbed her by the hand and helped her up, and they both collapsed on the ground and took a few minutes to recover, almost forgetting why they were there. After a while, Magnus popped up.
“Time to test these bad boys out!” He said, tugging on the pants that were now slightly damp from the spray of the waterfall. Without further preparation, he ran forward and leapt off the edge of the cliff.
Lup quickly popped up and scrambled to the edge to see what would happen. As Magnus fell, she could see him attempting various techniques for “activating” the parachute part of the pants, including scissor-kicking his legs. Eventually, though, he just ended up landing feet-first in the water with a large splash.
She watched the spot where he’d gone under, still waiting. After what seemed like multiple minutes, he finally resurfaced, shaking his head like a dog and waving towards her.
“They don’t work but that was awesome!” He shouted. “C’mon, Lup, the water’s great!”
Lup didn’t need any more prompting than that as she grinned and backed up a bit before taking a running leap off the edge.
