If you were the protagonist’s rival in pokemon. Choosing the pokemon with a type advantage over your rival. Loosing every time anyway. If you ever win, your rival always gets a rematch until they win, and you move on. You want to be the pokemon champion, but so does your rival and they beat you so bad you don’t even try the pokemon league ever again. They become champion.
